Hello~
My name is Christine Hsiao. You can call me Christine. I am a third-year nutrition science student planning to graduate in 2023. I am from Taiwan (Republic of China) and I came to Vancouver 4 years ago. English writing was particularly challenging for me when I first came since Mandarin is my first language. Learning to write fluently and academically in English took me many days and nights of practice. In the beginning, I only wrote in English for school assignments to achieve my desired grade, just like many people in the institution. Now, I am fueled by a passion and joy to improve my English writing in all contexts and scenarios. I would like to share about my learning journey in the ENGL 301 technical writing class, a technical writing course provided by the UBC English department. This was inspired by one of my good friends in Taiwan, Jessie, who shared with me her Instagram about her Mandarin writing. She uses Instagram to document her learning process, and as a channel to exchange mandarin writing skills and tips with others who are passionate about writing, helping and encouraging others to write more and write better.
I hope that you will find my blog useful as an English writing resource and that my experiences can encourage or inspire you to be more motivated in your own writing journey. If you are interested or curious about ENGL 301 and how it may help you with your technical writing, please feel free to contact me by emailing me (lovepassionlife0618@gmail.com) or dropping a comment below, I would love to chat with you and share more of my experiences and tips with you!
