Main thing that I learned in EDCP 305 class was the GarageBand. And I wanted to put on the tutorial and guideline about the GarageBand. I tried to focus on the GarageBand the most in my BLOG! Please ENJOY! đŸ™‚
GarageBand is a software application which allows users to create music and podcasts. GarageBand is used to record music on Macintosh computers. It features an onboard keyboard, multi-track recorder, and extensive loop library.
I will give you the guide of how to use GarageBand! Please follow along!
First step: Getting StartedÂ
1) Launch GarageBand and select “File” and click “NEW” in the upper left-hand corner. (In here you can create the title for your own song)
2)When you load your new song, please click “+” in the lower left corner.
3)Then, you have to decide whether you want to use “Software Instrument”, “Real Instrument” or “Electric Guitar”
Second step: Adding “Software Instrument” Tracks
1) Choose the “Software Instrument” option. You have variety of choice to make other than Grand piano. The default instrument is always a Grand piano.
2) Bring up the GarageBand keyboard. In here you can play music using any type of instrument you would like to choose by using the on-screen keyboard available in GarageBand. Also, you can use “Musical Typing” option which you can play music by your computer’s keyboard other than with the mouse. Sometimes, it is easier to use keyboard on computer than the mouse.
3) Recording the track. In order to record, press the red button near the bottom of the screen. When you begin to play with the keyboard or musical typing, you can start the recording. The bar will be red which indicates that you are still recording. When you are finished, you can click on the red button again and the bar which was red will change to green.
Third step: Adding Loops
1) Open the “Loop Browser”. Loops are prerecorded clips of music that comes with the GarageBand. Click on the icon which looks like an eye in the bottom right corner, and that’s the way to access into the loops. You will see different types of loops when you open a window.
2) Browse for the loop you want. You can filter loops based on scale, instrument, mood, genre, and tone. Also, you will see the information about the loop’s tempo, key, and duration.
3) Drag your loop over to the track list. when you want to add loop as a track in your song, just drag it from the list to the middle part of the screen. As you let go of the loop, the loop will be added as your new track.
Fourth step: Editing the tracks
1) After you added all the tracks you wanted, you can edit them to make them sound better. You can play around with the GarageBand’s different features.
2) By splitting the tracks into multiple parts, you could rearrange them. Drag the red line that shows your position in the song to mark where you want to split it. You then have to select “Edit” and press “Split”. But if you want to put your split tracks back together, click on the part you want to merge and hold the “Shift” and then click on the second part. When you want to merge them, both of the bar should be highlighted and you should select “Edit” and press “Join” in the main menu.
3)You could change the track volume and adjust track panning at the same time. In order to change the track volume, you can move the circle in order to lower volume or higher volume.
When you want to adjust the track panning, which allows you to make tracks come out of the left or right speakers or headphones. You can twist the circle left or right depending on what you want.
Final step: Exporting your track
1) Press “File” and then “Save” in the main menu in order to save your song.
2) When you want to send it over to iTunes library, select “Share” and then select “Send Song to iTunes”. After entering the information of the track, you will have your song in the iTunes library.
This is the GarageBand tutorial about how to use GarageBand from YouTube.
I have created one song by using GarageBand!
Title of my song is “Friends and Memories”.
My song contains many loops such as classic rock piano, club dance beat, electronic drum beat, shaker, delicate piano, tambourine, bass, pop piano…etc.
I learned piano since when I was 9 years old but I was never good at playing piano, so I mostly focused on putting piano loops in my music. I wanted to take advantage of using GarageBand, and that was one of the reason why I put focus on piano. GarageBand is useful when you don’t know how to play an instrument.
I made this song by thinking about my friends and thinking about memories in the past.
