G\u00f3mez and Murillo will discuss their new book\u00a0Formacion docente: demandas desde la frontera<\/i>\u00a0[Teacher\u00a0Education: Demands from the Boundaries], a collection of\u00a0essays that\u00a0gives voice to perspectives and approaches frequently absent\u00a0from traditional practices, but are fundamental to the transformative\u00a0possibilities of teacher education.<\/p>\n

The essays\u00a0are situated within a postcolonial perspective in dialogue with\u00a0queer theory, inviting a rethinking of current discursive practices around the\u00a0curriculum of\u00a0teacher education, asking – among other things – Where do these\u00a0discourses and practices come from? What gives them legitimacy?, What effects\u00a0do they have? as a\u00a0way to problematize the ways in which the curriculum of\u00a0teacher education is responsible of signifying, appropriating and reproducing\u00a0identitarian configurations, as\u00a0well as problematize ways of thinking that\u00a0discipline and configure certain modalities of life projects through their\u00a0formative action.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Great Schools Project<\/a>\u00a0is a collaboration among individuals who want to strengthen and protect public education in British Columbia. For almost four years, educators, parents, researchers, and leaders, both inside and outside the education system, have met to discuss how to improve the way we evaluate and assess our schools.<\/p>\n

We feel the current system is both too narrow (focused on only a portion of the important work schools do) and too punitive (with substantial negative impact on individual students and educators).<\/p>\n

After extensive discussions of the current system of Foundation Skills Assessment (FSAs) and their use to rank schools,\u00a0the GSP working group has developed ideas about alternatives that would better serve both students and public schools.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Great Schools Teach-In\u00a0provides an opportunity for us to present some of these ideas and for you to debate them and provide your input.<\/p>\n
