{"id":596,"date":"2013-01-30T00:55:02","date_gmt":"2013-01-30T07:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ices\/?page_id=596"},"modified":"2013-02-09T10:55:24","modified_gmt":"2013-02-09T17:55:24","slug":"stephen-petrina","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ices\/about-us\/people\/stephen-petrina\/","title":{"rendered":"Stephen Petrina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Petrina, Stephen<br \/>\nProfessor of Media &amp; Technology Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stephen Petrina is a Media and Technology Studies specialist, cultural historian, and critical educator. \u00a0He is a Professor (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/tsed\/\" target=\"_blank\">Media &amp; Technology Studies<\/a>) in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/edcp.educ.ubc.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubc.ca\" target=\"_blank\">University of British Columbia<\/a>. \u00a0He has advised to completion over 60 Masters and PhD students and has 100+ interdisciplinary publications. Currently he is exploring the interconnections between digital media and learning and is Director of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/howwelearn\/\" target=\"_blank\">How We Learn Media &amp; Technology (Across the Lifespan<\/a>) lab and project. The emphasis is on design and engineering cognition.<\/p>\n<p>Actively researching academic freedom, he is co-Editor (with E. Wayne Ross)\u00a0of\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/ojs.library.ubc.ca\/index.php\/workplace\" target=\"_blank\">Workplace: A Journal for Academic Labor<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and blogs with Wayne at the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/workplace\/\" target=\"_blank\">Workplace blog<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0He is co-founder and co-Director, with Sandra Mathison and E.
