{"id":861,"date":"2013-11-26T20:09:04","date_gmt":"2013-11-27T03:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ices\/?p=861"},"modified":"2013-11-26T20:10:08","modified_gmt":"2013-11-27T03:10:08","slug":"bc-again-the-worst-province-in-canada-for-child-poverty-liberals-failing-bced-bcpoli-ubc-yteubc-idelnomore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ices\/2013\/11\/26\/bc-again-the-worst-province-in-canada-for-child-poverty-liberals-failing-bced-bcpoli-ubc-yteubc-idelnomore\/","title":{"rendered":"BC again the worst province in Canada for child poverty: Liberals failing #bced #bcpoli #ubc #yteubc #idlenomore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.campaign2000.ca\/reportCards\/provincial\/BritishColumbia\/2013First_Call_Report_Card.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ices\/files\/2013\/11\/Campaign2000-300x112.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.campaign2000.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Campaign 2000<\/a>, November 26, 2013&#8211;\u00a0The latest figures from Statistics Canada (2011) once again show that BC is the worst province in Canada when it comes to major measures of child poverty:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BC had a child poverty rate of 18.6 per cent \u2014 the worst rate of any province in Canada, using the before-tax low income cut-offs of Statistics Canada as the measure of poverty.<\/li>\n<li>BC had the worst poverty rate of any province for children living in single mother families \u2014 49.8 per cent.<\/li>\n<li>BC also had the worst poverty rate of any province for children living in two-parent families \u2014 14 per cent.<\/li>\n<li>BC\u2019s poverty rate for children under 6 years at 20.7 per cent is 8 percentage points higher than the Canadian average.<\/li>\n<li>British Columbia also had the most unequal distribution of income among rich and poor families with children.
