Wayne Ross<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Editors of\u00a0<em><a href=\"\/index.php\/workplace\/index\">Workplace<\/a><\/em>\u00a0are accepting manuscripts for a theme issue on\u00a0<strong>Academic Mobbing<\/strong>.\u00a0 Academic mobbing is defined by the\u00a0<em>Chronicle of Higher Education<\/em>\u00a0(11 June 2009) as: \u201ca form of bullying in which members of a department gang up to isolate or humiliate a colleague.\u201d\u00a0The\u00a0<em>Chronicle<\/em>\u00a0continues:<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\">If rumors are circulating about the target\u2019s supposed misdeeds, if the target is excluded from meetings or not named to committees, or if people are saying the target needs to be punished formally \u201cto be taught a lesson,\u201d it\u2019s likely that mobbing is under way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">As Joan Friedenberg eloquently notes in\u00a0<em>The Anatomy of an Academic Mobbing<\/em>, the toll taken is excessive. \u00a0Building on a long history of both analysis and neglect in academia,\u00a0<em>Workplace<\/em>\u00a0is interested in a range of scholarship on this practice, including theoretical frameworks, legal analyses, resistance narratives, reports from the trenches, and labor policy reviews.\u00a0 We invite manuscripts that address, among other foci:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>Effects of academic mobbing<\/li>\n<li>History of academic mobbing<\/li>\n<li>Sociology and ethnography of the practices of an academic mob<\/li>\n<li>Social psychology of the academic mob leader or boss<\/li>\n<li>Academic mobbing factions (facts &amp; fictions) or short stories<\/li>\n<li>Legal defense for academic mob victims and threats (e.g., Protectable political affiliation, race, religion)<\/li>\n<li>Gender norms of an academic mob<\/li>\n<li>Neo-McCarthyism and academic mobbing<\/li>\n<li>Your story\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Contributions for\u00a0<em>Workplace<\/em>\u00a0should be 4000-6000 words in length and should conform to APA, Chicago, or MLA style.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FINAL\u00a0Date for Papers: May 30, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAST Call for Papers Academic Mobbing Special Issue Workplace: A Journal for Academic Labor Editors: Stephen Petrina &amp; E.
