E-Learning Toolkit – Moodle Reflection

For MOODLE

Reflection

Write an entry for your course weblog about your experience here (on your “Home” page and posting a new entry). How labour intensive was the process?

What worked well?

The variety of options available once the editing for the page was turned on. There were so many options and the site suddenly became an extremely interactive space. Everything could be clicked or moved around. It seems very flexible for the educator to add or subtract elements from their site. The prior knowledge I had with Moodle was very helpful when I was following the instructions given.

What was challenging?

I had difficulty with the Grading section within this activity. I do not know where to select the 5 rating when I was creating the Ice Breaker forum. The most challenging part was getting used to the layout of Moodle. I wasn’t sure where to add the new resource, because there was a chart with a list of dates on a weekly outline. The display of the page is a bit drab and I wonder how I can make it seem more visually appealing to the learner. It currently does not use the medium quite effectively. The username was a bit confusing. I think the site existed for another person by the same name that I have. I was looking at the other course it was associated with, and I have never taken the course.

What surprised you?

The ease of creating web pages and the activities. By selecting from the drop down menu, an educator can create a wide range of activities really quickly. You just had to have an idea on what you wanted and you could select the appropriate activity or resource. I am sure once the educator is more familiar with creating resources and activities, it should be a breeze.

I agree, that when I first tried my moodle page the appearance was very drab. I was looking at a few other examples and noticed that some people had changed the template and it looked a lot better. It took me forever to figure out how, but once I did I was quite happy with how it looked. There are a lot of options to download too, but I couldn’t quite figure that part out either. Anyway, I’m happy with how mine looks for now.
