WordPress!
I finally had the courage to explore WordPress. WordPress is a very powerful blogging tool because it gives the user so many options and additional features. The format of the site is user -friendly and usually with a few clicks here and there the site is very well laid out and the posts are up for the world to see. At first, I did not realize how powerful WordPress was when we started to use it. It was very different from blogger.com and the freedom to add pages and posts were very confusing. After meddline with the features and the side bars for 4 hours or more, I finally realized the hang of it. I discovered the use of categories and I also discovered the use of quick edit. I understand why they had a reason for that. It makes organizing the site a lot more efficient and more convenient.
I would very very careful in instructions should i ever employ WordPress in the classroom because it is for an advanced blogger. For students who are younger, I would suggest something that had less freedom in the choice of the site and the layout. There are too many places a student can get lost in. It can be a very frustrating experience for students especially if they are new to blogging.
Labour intensive? Quite. I had to figure out a lot of things by trial and error. I guess there are always detailed instructions on how to use this site somewhere but it is definitely so hard keeping my fingers from clicking away at everything around my post. It was a lot more fun to click, click, and click then read, read, and read
What surprised me?
The presentation of the site at the end of this WordPress session truly surprised me. My portfolio looked a lot better and it was a lot easier to organize than a paper portfolio. It looked brand new! The fonts were organized and the titles were organized. It felt like spring cleaning. Okay, maybe even better than that because I did not have to take out the vacuum cleaner.
A very valuable exploration of WordPress. My work in progress as usual is Moodle.
