Multimedia Reflective Post
Art Education During Practicum
I felt multimedia really enhanced my learning during an education class when I was learning how to teach art during my practicum. The art instructor used multimedia to create, represent, distribute, produce and perform art. She used a variety of presentation methods for us to understand art was not only about being a good portrait artist but it included a variety of different skills in different mediums.
One of the most memorable lessons for me was when we had to take our digital cameras to the beach. The purpose of the lesson was to create 3-D structures using stones, pebbles, shells, seaweed and other found materials to express our ideas and thoughts. The digital photography component was to record our creations and put them after into a photo collage. I learned some basic digital photography skills and slide show skills with this lesson. It really enhanced my learning because if digital photography was not available, it would be very hard to create a sense of a “project”. It was not just an isolated moment in the classroom but it intertwined and could be developed into a process of learning. The project was then used in a personal presentation of my own work later on.
This lesson really illustrated how an art educator could use multimedia in a variety of different ways in a classroom. It does not only have to be used in the process of creation but also as a means of documentation. This flexibility that multimedia has will definitely make it much more convenient to integrate the learning outcomes and purposes of the curriculum.
