I’ve been very lucky to be a student of UBC and a resident of beautiful Vancouver since 2010. In my free time, I try to get away from the city and take in as much as I can of the breathtaking natural scenery of BC. Here is a great list of well-marked hikes around Vancouver with lots of useful details. For more adventurous options, check this one out.
Mechanical Engineering Graduate Association (MEGA) of UBC provides a matchless platform for graduate students across the department to meet up, make friends, share their experience and learn and grow together. It also provides a valuable opportunity for the students to communicate more effectively with the department. I have learned a lot and made great friends serving as an executive member of MEGA.
I’m a big fan of TED! It’s mind-blowing how easily one can learn about such a diverse spectrum of technological innovations, scientific ideas, personal and social experiences… here’s a list of some interesting talks.
I can’t pinpoint when exactly I got into science. I remember being amazed by the idea that whether a plant is a Dicot or a Monocot determines the pattern of its veins. I was also mind-blown when I learned about the relation between Fibonacci numbers and cabbage! And in high school I thought few hobbies are as cool as making and flying your own model airplane… I’ve come to believe all science is cool! Check out a few examples I’ve listed here to support this!
