SOCIAL CHANGE @ THE EDGE<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA.\u00a0JUNE 4TH TO.\u00a06TH, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Canadian Association for the Study of International Development (CASID)\u00a0graciously invites you to participate at its 2013 meeting, as part of the\u00a0Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences Congress, at the\u00a0University of Victoria. Academics (faculty and students), practitioners,\u00a0the policy making community, NGOs, social movements and community\u00a0groups are all welcome to attend and participate actively. We especially\u00a0acknowledge and invite participation by the Salish peoples, upon whose
\ntraditional territory our event will be held.
\nThis conference, taking place at one edge of this continent and of this\u00a0country, invites an awareness of place. At the same time, the Congress\u00a0theme, @ the edge, invites other interpretations, as themes of global \u00a0instability<\/em> continue, even as the edge and impacts of new technologies are\u00a0being felt the world over. Standing at the edge of social change<\/em> invites\u00a0deep reflections on what has passed and what is to come. With its
\npreoccupation with social change processes, and the various factors\u00a0that impact and influence them, International Development Studies is a\u00a0particularly well situated to discuss what it means to be @ the edge. Thus,\u00a0this conference invites all who attend to connect with the many dimensions\u00a0of our work, including, but not limited to, spatial, temporal, and topical\u00a0points of connection. As such, we encourage you to submit paper and panel\u00a0proposals relevant to the theme of this conference.
\nPlease keep in mind that CASID attracts a wide audience and we thus\u00a0encourage you to relate your specific research and development experiences\u00a0to more general themes. How can discussions related to your specific\u00a0research reach out to a broad audience and generate rich dialogue and\u00a0debate? Papers on geographic areas (Asia, Latin America, Africa, Eastern\u00a0Europe) are also welcome and encouraged. Please link your proposed
\npaper\/panel to one or more of this year’s themes:<\/p>\n
