What are the shapes of time today?
Our understanding of time (or lack thereof) is one of the salient characteristics of contemporary experience. Everywhere we look, from scientific and philosophical texts to popular culture films and novels, new perceptions of Time seems to emerge. In them, inherited notions of linearity, the flow of past-present-future and the irreversibility of its direction are questioned.
The same can be said about the arts: loops, reverse motions, repetition, simultaneity are, among others, recurring elements in contemporary works whether from visual, theatre or music works.
This is an invitation to explore these possibilities in a work. From a very personal point of view, think of ways in which to reflect you experience time and try to convey it through images.

I was thinking about how we’ve been exploring different shapes for time and how geometric representations seem to be so appropriate not only for this instance but for our modern moment in general. There’s a reductionist and purist quality to geometry that seems to be an attractive way to grasp our understanding of the world surrounding us. But I was also thinking about TIME as a factor that maybe isn’t as consistent or concrete as we lend it to be, it envelops our experiences and gives shape and form to our lives in such a malleable and mysterious way that I can’t think of it as simply geometry sometimes.

A Shape / SLICE / of time
Thinking about the shape of time made me think of sculptural forms. What better form to manipulate in order to represent the passage of time than that of Michelangelo’s David? Imagine you lived in Florence, Italy in the 1500s and you went to high school with David. He was your crush. Ten years later, you see him at the reunion and he looks like this. That added form is the shape of time.

Shaping Time – ‘Pain’
I was thinking of how we shape Time in a never ending pattern and play with the irregular pace in Time that is shaped by experiencing human emotions
I am thinking about time related to different representations of lives.
The way egg changes from an unborn life to one dish could be one interesting way to show the shape of time.
In the end of the movie I am trying to create an effect of playing basketball.

My approach in representing the shape of time considers time as a variable to the fourth dimension. The fourth dimension is not a physical dimension, but one that combines the perception of 3 dimensional space with time, which is a separate dimension. This concept is better known as “space-time”.
In this piece, I am trying to illustrate these dimensions while considering that in space-time, events can’t be defined spatially or temporally. They are moments that are absolutely relative to the motion of the observer.
