Paene, iudices, narrare coepi (3.5)

Argentarius makes a jab at the Vestal’s professed chastity while rejecting the idea that he intends to speak about her case. This is an example of praeteritio – a rhetorical technique in which the speaker mentions an idea while denying their intention to bring it up. It was used extensively by Cicero (Catil. 1.10, Phil. 7.15) and still appears from time to time in modern political rhetoric.
