Below is a sample worksheet created for an introductory organic chemistry course, weaving together Western approaches to “Acids/Bases” and Musqueam approaches to “Natural Dyeing.” At UBC, it would be suitable for a course like CHEM 233 or CHEM 213.
This worksheet was designed to meet existing learning outcomes for the course, while also creating room for Indigenous learning principles. Try to identify the following learning principles in the worksheet:
- Engagement with the local land and those that live on it
- Holistic learning (cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual domains)
- Experiential learning
- Reflective learning
- Language
- Recognizing interconnectedness of actions and beings
