The professor and his ability to be super accommodating and helpful in the learning process. In class corrections so that students know exactly what their mistakes are. the strengths are that marcos is a very non–intimidating spanish instructor. some instructors are very overstimulating where as marcos is not, and yet he still is able to teach everything that we need to know. also, hes very fair in his marking and understands that not everyone is a spanish expert. Professor Marcos was very helpful and approachable and he encouraged our participation in class in a supportive manner. Professor Marcos provided the most supportive learning environment than any I have experienced at UBC in my 4 years thus far. He ensured we all knew he was available for questions or inquiries during class, after class, and during office hours, and framed it such that it felt safe to go to him. His classes were structured with variety and engaging activities pushing us to learn efficiently. We studied and reviewed content before exams so that everyone was prepared and felt confident to go into the exams or projects. instructor is super patient and kind. The strengths lies on the introductory aspect of the course, allowing people from different backgrounds and level of mastery of the language to come together and learn, polish, and master their knowledge of the language. The course allows room and encourages mistakes which is crucial for learning a language and even more vital for an introductory class. The class sizes are another strength of the course as it is often not too small and not too large, allowing for closer instructor–student interactions which is necessary for evaluating and helping the students. It was very interactive and the instructor created a friendly and relaxed environment. Encouraged to learn in a variety of ways (in class discussions, group work, at–home assignments, etc.) allowed me to go out of my comfort zone sometimes but also learn in ways I prefer. Prof. Marcos Moscoso–Garay make the course engaging and positive which helped me be less fearful of learning another language. Considering how fast paced the summer semesters are, the material was taught the best way it could have been by the professor. The material is presented in a way to memorize and I like that it was done with vocabulary because that’s how I learn best. This course was very helpful for getting a decent understanding of lots of verb tenses, general vocabulary, and grammar in a short amount of time. Strengths of the Spanish 102 course:
–Various activities to help us use Spanish vocabulary and grammar structures.
–Practiced with a lot useful questions as put in the textbook to help us think through the new themes and apply what we learned.
–Professor Marcos is a great professor to be with and very encouraging and approachable! It was a small class which was helpful in being able to have one–on–one interaction with the instructor. -
Please identify what you consider to be the strengths of this course.

Please comment on any aspects, positive or negative, of your instructor’s teaching, attitudes to students, class atmosphere, or any other matters affecting the quality of instruction that you consider worthy of note.
I think the way of teaching in this class was very clear and the fact that number of students were not many allowed the instructor to make sure everyone has understood each topic. |
Sets a great foundation for Spanish. teaches you about Spanish culture The small class size allowed for a better connection with classmates and prof. |
The kahoots really helped me learn from the homework. |
– the instructed did a great job of making the course fun (ie. Kahoots and videos) – the instructor also did a great job of encouraging class participating which really helped my learn. – I also liked that the assignments were well spaced out and nothing was worth a crazy amount of our grade. Kept things low stress which is great for learning 🙂 |
The strengths of this course would be that the professor is passionate about what he teaches and does his best to make sure we understand the material. Also the course content is interesting and able to be picked up after some individual studying, and after going over it in class. Overall the course isn’t too heavy in terms of work–load, and the professor is really nice and understanding. |
I feel that all information was presented in a digestive way on canvas. It made it far easier to understand course material that was unclear from class. |
Fun activities, relaxed learning environment, and good immediate feedback. |
Engagement with the students |
It was appropriately paced |
The pace at which it’s going and the structure. |
I’m such a beginner Spanish leaner but was able to enjoy and gain knowledge and speaking experience of Spanish thorough term 1. |
Lots of available feedback and help from professor. Lots of oppourtunity for practice and participation |
It is a small classroom format where everyone got to participate. There was regular homework that kept us motivated. The online textbook and courses also made what needed to be get done very clear. |
The Instructor had an answer to every question and the evaluations for this course were very fair. Everything that was expected and required of us was clearly communicated. Also, the class was fun! It wasn’t just lecturing but the prof added some videos and cultural content that made the class more engaging. |
very engaging. |
This course successfully teaches the basics of the Spanish language in a comprehensive way that isn’t overtly challenging. The instructor is passionate about teaching and his regular employment of Spanish creates an atmosphere of learning. |
I think that this course is really helpful for encouraging speaking up in class. That is something that I struggle with frequently and I found that the culture around speaking in class was really chill and the professor was kind in giving feedback which helped me understand the content better but also feel more confident in speaking up the next time around. |
I really enjoyed the course in how it involved a variety of learning strategies like reading, listening, interactive activities, Kahoots, etc that made the class effective and fun! Thank you! |
Definitely my professor was the strength of this course and the fact that it was fairly a smaller class. |
