Crickets and mealworms are the most commonly farmed insects in the Western World.
As you can see from the image above, there are major nutritional benefits from eating crickets rather than a mammal farm animal. Many insects are even rich in b12, a rare nutrient to find in vegetarian diets. They are low in calories for a generous amount of protein. You can therefore eat more crickets for the same amount of protein as you would a chicken breast, for a significantly lower count of calories.

The current argument for people who are “grossed out” from eating bugs is that land arthropods are much cleaner than “sea insects” such as shrimp and other crustaceans that sweep the ocean floors of filth. People who enjoy shellfish, therefore should in theory also enjoy  land insects. However, it has been said if people have an allergy to shellfish, they should also not eat insects due to allergy tendencies.
