{"id":249,"date":"2013-06-11T14:03:41","date_gmt":"2013-06-11T21:03:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ipadsforliteracylearning\/?page_id=249"},"modified":"2013-06-17T17:06:14","modified_gmt":"2013-06-18T00:06:14","slug":"step-by-step","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ipadsforliteracylearning\/integration-process\/step-by-step\/","title":{"rendered":"AT Implementation Process (General Overview)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-269 alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ipadsforliteracylearning\/files\/2013\/06\/AT-implementation-plan.png\" width=\"375\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ipadsforliteracylearning\/files\/2013\/06\/AT-implementation-plan.png 535w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ipadsforliteracylearning\/files\/2013\/06\/AT-implementation-plan-273x300.png 273w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Step 1<\/span>: Gather Relevant Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">Hold an initial team meeting to determine what data you will be collecting<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Data collected should show a baseline of student performance without the assistive technology<\/li>\n<li>Collect as much information as possible using checklists, work samples, observations, interviews, formal assessments etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Step 2<\/span>: Establish IEP Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">Based on the data collected, identify priority areas for the student. \u00a0Use these areas to form both long-term and short-term goals for the student<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The iPad should not be a goal for the student, but instead a resource used to assist the student in reaching these objectives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Step 3<\/span>: Conduct Assistive Technology Trials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct trials with 2-3 different AT solutions (if possible) and collect as much data as possible<\/li>\n<li>Important step because there is a large spectrum of AT solutions<\/li>\n<li>Remember this is a process, trial and error takes time, for the best results<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Step 4:<\/span> Identify AT Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"line-height: 15px;\">After the trials of AT solutions have finished, if an AT solution is successful, select the AT suitable for the student&#8217;s use.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Step 5:<\/span>\u00a0Develop AT Implementation Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"line-height: 15px;\">With team, designate who is going to responsible for what with the AT<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Areas for consideration: training, management, security, plan for use in the classroom, assessment, and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Step 6:<\/span> Adapt Lessons for AT Integration<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"line-height: 15px;\">Key to this step is to have the involvement of the classroom teacher; figure out who is going to do what between the teacher and the paraprofessionals<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Determine learning goals and pedagogical decisions to determine parameters of learning activity<\/li>\n<li>Select appropriate activity types and assessment strategies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Step 7:<\/span> Follow Up and Plan Transition<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Imperative to regularly evaluate the use of the AT and reassess it<\/li>\n<li>Current team must plan for future changes such as transitions, classrooms, teachers, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
