Unfortunately, the hiring process for the 2016\/2017 Winter session has now closed.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage you to come out to all of our events possible so you get to meet the community, connect with our current executive and network with professors and professionals in the field. The more relationships you build within the IR community the more amazing opportunities you&#8217;ll learn about and embark on!<\/p>\n<p><b>*CLOSED*Assistant to President and Vice-President Internal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2 positions available)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As an assistant to the executive council, your portfolio will fall under the leadership of either the President or the VPI. You will be responsible for assisting them in fulfilling their roles and duties (where needed) and occasionally conducting correspondence on the behalf of your respective executive member.<br \/>\nThe position may also include assisting in the organization of various IRSA events (where they fit into your executive\u2019s portfolio) and temporarily assuming your executive member\u2019s duties if they are unable to do so. The career fair shows students the various professional options available to them after graduation &#8211; with a focus on jobs and streams related to International Relations. This is a week long event held on campus, which the career fair coordinators will be responsible for planning and executing. <\/span>You will be responsible for planning most aspects related to the career fair, including reaching out to employers, alumni and other relevant partners; booking event spaces and organizing food options. This is an excellent networking and skills building position for students. There is no experience required for this position, however, this is best suited towards upper-level students. Career Fair coordinators will also be required to attend bi-weekly IRSA executive member meetings.<\/p>\n<p><b>General Skills and Qualifications<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strong understanding of International Relations and the various fields\/streams within it<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent communication and coordination skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to deal with and work within a budget<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capacity to oversee and execute a mid-sized event<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to work within a deadline and excellent time-management skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High level of organization\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>*CLOSED*IRSA Gala Coordinator Assistants <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2 positions available)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>IRSA\u2019s annual Winter Benefit Gala is our largest and among our most anticipated events of the year. This event is a formal gala open to both the UBC community and the general public, which aims to raise funds and awareness for a certain cause each year. The Gala assistants are therefore an important part of executing this event.<\/p>\n<p>Gala assistants will be directly responsible to the Gala Coordinator &#8211; who will be leading the organization and execution of the event. Nonetheless, gala assistants will play key roles in the planning of this event, including but not limited to; seeking out charitable causes, booking venues; contacting sponsors; organizing entertainment and food; and setting up and taking down the event. While no IRSA experience is required, past experience with event planning is an asset. Gala coordinators are expected to attend bi-weekly (and later, weekly) IRSA meetings for the duration of the planning of the Gala. We expect this position to require around 5-10 hours per week.<\/p>\n<p><b>General Skills and Qualifications<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience with event planning<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent communication skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capacity to work within a team, and independently<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to meet deadlines and time-management skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proactive and professional<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fantastic interpersonal skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passion for International issues and charitable causes\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>*CLOSED*Alumni Affairs Assistants <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2 writers &amp; 1 graphic designer)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As an Alumni Affairs Assistant, your portfolio will fall under the responsibilities of the Head of the Alumni Affairs, who is primarily responsible for the overseeing the entirety of the IR Alumni Newsletter including writing, editing, publishing, and distribution. The alumni newsletter is a great way to gain experience in writing, publishing and interviewing. It is published twice a year covering recent IRSA events, highlights from IR alumni\u2019s and upcoming events. The team will be working closely with IR Alumni Affairs to assist executives with any alumni-related responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Skills and Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All applications must be current UBC students, and should fit the following profile:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highly organized with excellent time management skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advanced communication and writing skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previous experience with media, publishing, and design <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proficient in \u00a0Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to work within a team<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Independent and able to manage deadlines and multitasking<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please also submit a writing sample if applying for the writer position, and any examples of previous designs if applying for graphic designer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi there, thank you for wanting to get involved with IRSA.
