No.
Music itself may not be totally killed off from the world. However, the industry may be falling, like the number of purchased music while music downloads increase. According to CNBC, music’s murder could be blamed on three culprits: the leakers (those who put the music up for free), labels, and musicians.
Because of leakers, the music industry had started to decline. After all, with the option of getting something cheaper, or even better, for free, who would want to buy the higher priced products? Music labels are also to blame due to their inability to foresee the upcoming demand of music streaming as well as their lack of security to prevent leakers in the first place. Artists, because of their actions of simply skim reading record label contracts, which could be seen as a sign of ignorance.
However, that aside, is there still hope for the music industry? With the emergence of music streaming applications such as Spotify and the newly released Apple Music, the industry’s revenue could improve, especially with the amount of revenue generated from the rights to have the songs available on the application, and from other businesses to have their ads play in said applications
So, is the music industry dead? Not yet. And hopefully, it won’t need to be.
