Leah Macfadyen is an established interdisciplinary scholar with a background in the natural sciences. She spent time working in Iceland in 1991. In 2005 she designed and launched an interdisciplinary global issues course at UBC (currently offered as SOCI 430 Perspectives on Global Citizenship). She and others have taught this course every term since. In 2009, Leah gained experience designing and leading an international field course, when she co-led UBC’s “Global Citizenship Term Abroad” to Guatemala.

Prof. Lee Groat has been a faculty member in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences (Geology) since 1989. He has instructed and led numerous field schools and trips. In addition he has spent much time in remote areas of Canada (primarily BC, YT, NT, and NU) with small groups of students doing geological fieldwork. Prof. Groat has been Director of the Integrated Sciences program at UBC since 2007.
