When I was studying the concept of business ethics in today’s world, i learnt that the safety of the workers is as important as the profits made by a company. We usually feel that all a company needs too do is earn higher profits and that would make them a successful firm, but it isn’t that easy.
There are various factors that indicate the importance of the workers’ safety. If they don’t have good safety conditions to work in, they feel unsafe, hence not as motivated. If they don’t have good safety, they could get hurt, which may cause the production to hinder, making the whole company suffer.
Another point that i read about in the article, “Inside Nike’s Struggle to Balance Cost and Worker Safety in Bangladesh“, was that if a complain is raised to the public due to the safety of the workers, the company suffers a lot of criticizing from the public and the industry. Nike suffered from this problem a lot in Bangladesh, but finally Hannah Jones, the head of sustainable business, in Nike inc. realized that they must make sure the safety of the workers is looked after or else they will ruin their reputation to a stage where it can’t be regained.
This shows us the importance of the safety of the people who work behind the scenes, as they are the ones who actually run a company and they must be looked after.
