Human Computer Interface<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Speech research in human-computer interaction and computer-mediated interaction evolves with technology. Current research being conducted in the ISRL looks at memory and embodied speech in virtual reality (VR), including effects of VR environment on remembering words, learning new words and sounds. Other studies are exploring avatar communication, including the effects of avatar head, hand and face\/lip movements on speech perception. A further line of research looks at speaker accommodation in interactions with smart devices and virtual assistants such as Siri and Alexa. While speakers generally adjust\/accommodate their speech according to who they are talking with, we may not do the same when the \u201clistener\u201d is not human (e.g. Alexa, Siri).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
