Halliburton is one of the world’s largest producers of oil, however, it faces numerous controversial accusations based on its ethical standings in the business world. This company’s priorities did not include ethical trading, following the law, or partaking in environmentally friendly extraction. This company’s priority was profit, but alongside profit came putting their employees at risk, “mismanaging waste”, and partaking in careless and hazardous operations that led to a devastating oil spill.

In general, a business’ ethics directly reflects on their reputation as a company through the eyes of consumers and competition. Partaking in unethical behaviour puts the company in a vulnerable position where its customers may no longer have trust in what they are purchasing. With the environment’s current state, it cannot afford to be tampered with anymore than it already has been; consumers are focusing much more on who made products, where they came from, and what damage was done in the process. Because this company is such a big exporter of oil, its target market covers the expanse of global countries. A poor reputation latches onto a company for years –something members of today’s petroleum sector cannot afford to risk.
