Location 180, a site focused on giving business advise to small businesses, posted a blog in the form of a question. This particular blog asked the reader which is best: Fostering relationships (networking) or putting your life and soul into the creation of your business. In my opinion, one can believe that the dilemma of this question is essentially a paradox explained within the blog: A business cannot thrive without an underlying core infrastructure of a great product and team. However, in order to get the team and sell the product, business owners must have a great relationship with clients and headhunting agencies.
As with most issues, one may believe that this problem breaks down into an issue of time allocation. There are only 24 hours in a day, and one of the most important skills a business owner has to possess is the ability to allocate the hours effectively. In relation to Location 180’s blog post, obtaining a balance between “connecting and creating” will depend on the industry and place in time of each particular business. For example, while tech companies require ultra-skilled labour in order to develop their products, fostering an environment of innovation and good work ethic will automatically attract potential employees. On the other hand, a talent agency may require to know the inner circle of their particular industry before attracting any clients.
