A couple of days ago I had my first Comm101 lecture and found it much more engaging than what I had previously imagined. Firstly, the use of name cards made it feel more formal and at the same time humanizing. It helped me engage in a deeper level with my classmates, since they were no longer merely voices in an audience of over a hundred. By knowing their names I felt more connected to them, even if I had never spoken to them in my life. In addition to my lecture experience, the use of a camera to focus on a speaker at first was extremely intimidating. However, as the minutes passed by, I built up the courage to raise my hand and be in the spotlight. Unfortunately my professors did not grant me the opportunity to speak since there were multiple people trying to voice their opinions; as you would imagine in a lecture hall of that size. I hope I will be picked on the next time so I can overcome my fear of not being thought of as a valuable member of the class.

Furthermore, I was surprised by the business and economics knowledge my classmates possessed on their first day. grouping with them and debating the implications of different price controls on demerit goods was very insightful and it helped me develop my economic understanding of the aforementioned issue.

After the class I found a very interesting article/opinion-piece detailing the effects on the access senior citizens have to medicine if drug prices are fixed by the government.

I am looking forward to my next class so that I can challenge myself even further.
