Well actually, quite the opposite. Tomorrow we begin working in groups and I’m going to have to push myself to fully engage in this activity. I’m an indepndent learner and, once again, want to resist. Boy this course is really forcing me out of my comfort zones!
So, to jump in and see if there’s more to group work than I imagined, I’ve gone ahead and posted a draft rubric to kick things off. We shall see how the process unfolds….

The first thing I noticed about myself when I was setting up my e-portfolio was that I was resistant. I found myself wondering why I was spending so much time learning a new application and wondered why I couldn’t be reading or writing (as I’m accustomed to doing in a class). Then it hit me…what the… ??? I’m taking a course for this very purpose!!
I learned: I get way too comfortable with what is familiar and once I’m there I don’t want to move to something new and different.
Thankfully, I am taking this course and am going to have to learn to resist the urge to dismiss anything new. At the same time, I think that this tendency may come in useful: I won’t be tempted to use any and all new technology in my courses simply because it exists.
So there it is: lesson one in ETEC 565. A good one indeed.
