Accomplishments

  • I attained close familiarity with the ArcGIS software group, and am now capable of compiling data and representing them efficiently.
    • This proficiency comes simultaneously with being able to find and sort through data sets to extract necessary information from multiple sources.
  • I was able to understand the work flow of data processing. The first few labs helped me to visualize logical blueprints that allowed for the data to be most accurately and usefully presented for the audience.
    • In an extension to this lesson, I was able to practice being more organized, and developed a good habit of keeping a clean work station.
    • Lab 2, which focused on coordinate systems and methods of projection instilled in me a habit of being conscious of the data’s audience. Two different projections can display the same data in two different ways, with one projection being more pertinent and useful to the audience than the other.
  • These labs allowed me to achieve a deeper understanding of data processing, how objective data can have very subjective representations and interpretations. This understanding delves into the ethical considerations behind data.
    • I now have a broader scope of knowledge and overall increased wariness when analyzing a dataset’s source, method of analysis, and representation.
