Teaching Philosophy

As an educator I believe that I must be knowledgeable about my students. By assessing student’s current abilities, I can understand every student’s current abilities and plan differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students.

I firmly believe in inclusion of every student in a classroom. To create an equitable and inclusive classroom, it is imperative to cultivate a culture of being respectful and promote respect for diversity in a classroom. The use of iPads and other forms of technology facilitates the inclusion of the special needs students in a classroom and enables me to provide multilingual instruction for English Language Learner students. I believe that the use of English Language Learners’ first language can aid the acquisitioon of English in a classroom; therefore, I support their learning by effectively incorporating their first language into instruction.

To support the different styles of learning, I must implement a lesson that incorporates different modes of learning. By employing Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory, I can present the academic contents through multiple-modes so that students develop skills to understand and represent knowledge in multiple modes; a skill that is necessary in 21st century.

I embrace inquiry-based learning and experiential learning because they make learning relevant to students and encourage them to engage in problem-solving and critical thinking process. They also provide students opportunities to explore areas of their interests within a subject area. To optimize student learning, I provide scaffolding instruction to students and act as a facilitator in class.

I believe in the power of collaborative learning. In a group setting, students can learn from each other and develop social skills as a result of cooperative interaction. By using a variety of teaching strategies, I am committed to offer the optimal education service for all students.
