M3 Discussion Forum Posting: Media Production
In revisiting the discussion posting for this module, I now have a better understanding of why technology is “more than just a tool.” When students create content, they need to consider the possible effects that their works will have on the viewers. The reason is that even though technology itself might be neutral, when used by human beings to achieve certain ends such a neutrality becomes nullified. With the proliferation of the Internet and the advancement of technology in general, users’ awareness and understanding of such implications should also be kept up to date. This is why I believe that when designing a tech-integrated curriculum, educators need to plan activities such as the Media Production and Media Study Guide assignments in this course to help students consider the ethical and legal implications of the affordances offered by technology so that through learning and ownership they can become the knowledgeable and responsible citizens they need to be in terms of content consumption and creation in the 21st century.
