#ff9900;\"><b>Course Description:<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information technology is a course designed for students to be introduced to basic skills in computer processing, photo manipulation, modeling and animation, computer programming, web design, and multimedia creation. \u00a0Students will develop a basic understanding of the different core focus areas, with the intention of pursuing one of the areas in a future senior level course. \u00a0In addition, students will be able to develop problem solving, design, collaboration and critical thinking skills as they apply their skills to real world scenarios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-198 aligncenter\" 400;\">Students will apply basic object-oriented programming skills to designing simple games by using block-based programming tools.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will use online tools to collaborate in real time while working on various course projects.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will evaluate the effects and ethics of photo manipulation in media on consumers, while developing basic editing skills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will utilize the design process in creating 3D models and simple animations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will critique the layouts of various websites and apply this learning to creating their own website.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><b>Units of Study:<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Making Games<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will utilize the Drag-and-Drop programming language Scratch in order to create small online games and animations. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Making Photos<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will work with photo editing and manipulation software, such as Photoshop, to create their own unique and interesting images. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Making Models<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will use the open source program, Blender, to design their own 3D models and create small animations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Making Websites<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will learn basic web programming languages, while working to create their own website<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Tools for Business<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will utilize the online platform, Microsoft Office 365, and the desktop Microsoft Office Suite to collaborate and create different resources that would be used in a business environment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-197 aligncenter\" #ff9900;\"><b>Assessment:<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This course is designed to utilize a project-based learning strategy. \u00a0Each unit of study will have two or three\u00a0main projects that students will be required to complete in addition to smaller learning tasks, quizzes and discussions. \u00a0As such, projects will carry the heaviest weighting for the student\u2019s overall grade. \u00a0Students are expected to also maintain a digital portfolio of their various assignments so that they can showcase their learning and projects. \u00a0It is recommended that students use either the <a href=\"http:\/\/edublogs.org\/\">Edublog<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/\">WordPress<\/a> platform for creating their digital portfolio. \u00a0If students have a strong desire to use a different platform, it must first be approved by Mr. Jamieson. \u00a0Students are expected to update their portfolio on a regular basis and the portfolios will be assessed at the end of the course.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Completed Projects \u2013 70%<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Introductory Assignments \u2013 15%<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> Participation in online discussions and creation of digital portfolio<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u2013 15%<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Students will utilize Edmodo\u00a0to be able to submit their course assignments. \u00a0You can\u00a0sign up for Edmodo by following the steps on the <a href=\"https:\/\/edmo.do\/j\/28ys8t\">link here<\/a>. \u00a0Students will need to hand-in their assignments to utilize multiple strategies for communication and discussions. \u00a0We will attempt to use the commenting feature built into WordPress to be able to generate online class discussions. \u00a0Students are also able to engage in discussions through the Edmodo platform. \u00a0Edmodo will be used to supplement the course which is predominantly accessed through WordPress. \u00a0In
