Assessment and Environment

The book “Classroom Environment” by Barry J. Fraser looks at how teachers and schools are consistently subjected to judgments of performance based on simple measures of cognitive outcomes. However, this book looks at other factors such as places, typically classrooms, where learning takes place and where the quality of life in the classroom, impacts the type of education you receive. This resource is interesting because it offers a comparative aspect that I can use to justify my inquiry question and its importance in the learning environment. As a teacher candidate, I feel that I should continue to look for effective strategies to utilize in my own classroom one day. This article really made me think about the ways in which students are assessed and the various factors that can impact these assessments. It gave insight into the types of learning environments I have observed and the effects that a simple organization or structural change can have on a student’s learning outcomes. I will definitely use this resource as a means of making sure my students assessments factored in these aspects of student performance. This resource was published in 2012 therefore, the studies presented are quite relevant and accurate.
