Be Flexible. Over the past 4 weeks, I have had the opportunity to learn and absorb an immense amount of information. I have learnt new techniques on how to effectively manage a classroom environment, how to keep myself organized and remain flexible! All throughout this professional development program we were told that being flexible is a necessity when it comes to teaching young children. However, I undermined how flexible I would need to be when working in a classroom. Flexibility is vital and I observe it daily. Being flexible means making changes on the fly and being open to altering parts of your daily schedule. Whether it means changing an entire unit and introducing a new one or changing the seating arrangement of the classroom or even adapting to changes around the environment, I have learnt to successfully integrate and appreciate these changes! My inquiry question of the impacts of the classroom environment/arrangement on behavior has even played out. I have found myself making changes in the seating arrangement of the class and observed positive changes in effect immediately. I constantly catch myself working on ways to better the classroom environment and arrangement to foster a safe and enjoyable space for learning. I have also been able to observe the positive effects of implementing new and engaging activities/units as the focus of the classroom environment shifts. Being open to change and being flexible has been a major milestone and this is something I will carry forward throughout my career! I have been able to absorb so many techniques and strategies over the past 4 weeks and I cannot wait to see the coming weeks have in store for me.
