Always Learning!
I have been able to learn so much about myself over the past month. I have learnt so many new things, techniques, and skills that I know will be helpful for me down the road. I have also been able to recognize my strengths and weaknesses and have been able to find ways to better myself throughout the process. Being in an environment where I get to use my learnt knowledge and skills first hand has been one of the greatest learning experiences for myself. Coming into this professional development program I had many questions as to being a successful teacher and providing students ample opportunities of engagement and participation. However in just a little over a month I have been able to utilize the theory components of this program that we learnt in class at UBC and actually find opportunities to use this knowledge in becoming a classroom teacher. My inquiry questions successful seating arrangements within a classroom environment but my recent experiences have gotten me to explore things further. I’m now able to dig deeper into occurrences and problems that may arise around me and think with a more inquiry-based approach. Doing this has forced me to go beneath the root of the problem and figure out whether there are any underlying issues. Prior to this program, I was unaware of this inquiry-based approach but I feel that it has helped me work towards becoming a successful educator. It has also taught me that being an educator is a profession that involves constantly learning to keep building upon your previous knowledge. A true lifelong learning experience!
