In order to carry out my project, I developed my methodology to incorporate four main components:
-
- The first component involved researching to determine what makes a bus route and bus terminal location ideal. I did this by mainly looking at a lot of academic papers on the optimization of bus routes and bus terminals and also looking at general papers concerned with the functionality of transit systems.
- The second component involved retrieving and organizing the data I intended on using for my project. I did this by clipping, projecting, joining, and rotating some of the shapefiles I collected. More on this component and on the datasets I used, can be found here.
- The third component of my methodology was the MCE analysis I conducted to determine the ideal bus terminal location. The two factors I considered in this analysis were land use and population density. More on my processes for this component, can be found here.
- The final component was the least-path from Surrey to UBC that I generated. The costs in this case were assigned to different land uses based on some of my research as well as my own intuition. More on this component, can be found here.
