Today\u2019s mini-problem:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Develop a plan or formula for determining the equation of any sinusoidal function from\u00a0 a diagram\/graph.<\/em><\/p>\n

To help us communicate with one another, let’s use the following standard format for discussing sine\/cosine transformations.\u00a0 The general form of a transformed sinusoidal curve will look something like:<\/p>\n

y = a<\/strong> sin<\/em>b<\/strong>(x<\/em>–c<\/strong>) + d <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 or\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 y = a<\/strong> cos<\/em>b<\/strong>(x<\/em>–c<\/strong>) + d
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Post your group’s conclusions about what the letters a, b, c and d represent to the Moodle<\/a> discussion forum.\u00a0 Remember:\u00a0 your conclusions won’t necessarily be perfect but you must explain your rationale for arriving at them.\u00a0 Where possible, try to link your rationale back to transformations of other curves.<\/em><\/li>\n
  2. As a group, come up with one relatively straight forward graph and one whacky one that the other groups will have to solve tomorrow.\u00a0 Post them in the Moodle<\/a> question bank.\u00a0 Use any method you want to post them – a description in words, a screen shot, a picture of the screen of your graphing calculator.<\/li>\n
  3. Tonight at home, read through some of the other group’s conclusions and respond to at least two of them.<\/li>\n
  4. Tomorrow in class we will be collaborating as a whole class and then practicing our new skills on a variety of questions so come prepared to think and learn.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
