Standards for the Education, Competence and Professional Conduct of Educators in BC

Educators value and care for all students and act in their best interests.

This standard relates strongly to my teaching philosophy. Students and their best interests are the reason that we as educators are there. The relational and engaging aspect of teaching is what I love most about this profession and I strive to value and care for each individual student. Every student is different and sometimes what is in the best interest for one student isn’t the same for another. It is important for a teacher to recognize this aspect and be able to be flexible and adaptable.

 Educators engage in career-long learning.

Personally. I believe that learning can occur in almost any situation. As an educator, I hope to create positive situations for students to have the most beneficial and optimal learning experiences, not just for the hour or day but also for life. Life can be scary for students after high school and as an educator I feel that it is my job to help prepare them for conflicts they may face long term. What students learn in high school can make an impact on a student for the rest of their life. It is our duty as educators to not take that job lightly. I attempt to set an example and aim to educate
