Educational Experience

Student Teacher: Carson Graham Secondary School, North Vancouver, BC. February-April 2014

Professional Responsibilities

On my practicum at Carson Graham, I created lessons for the following classes:

English 10 (three blocks)

English 11 (one block)

English 12 (two blocks)

Literature 12 (one block)

Social Studies 8 (one block)

Interactions with Staff Members

At Carson, I networked with and observed other teachers in the English and Socials department, as well as in other subjects in the school. Further, I partnered with teachers in various departments to discuss teaching strategies, as well as learn more about the teaching profession. Also, I had the chance to collaborate with library staff to implement and maintain technology in the school. Finally, I partnered with administration to solve student behaviour conflicts.

 Extracurricular Activities

During my practicum, I had the opportunity to coach Ultimate Frisbee with two teachers (not my SA’s) and understand how the school environment functions outside of the classroom.

Further, I also partook in  IB unit and cross-curricular planning with the English department. In these meetings, I saw how the IB MYP program is developed and executed in the school, and the planning that goes into it.

Some other notable activities I supervised were Free the Children’s 24 Hour Fast and a graduation dance at the Italian Cultural Centre. Also, I collaborated with another teacher candidate to help organize Free The Children’s Vow of Silence.
