A few tips/observations

So here we are finally in central Addis Ababa. Here are a few things that I have observed while in the street and such.

It is a bustling city full of people.  People are everywhere starting from 6am to 7pm. Be prepared to talk English with everyone on the street. You are a easy target for English practice, uncomfortable stares and light verbal harassment. People are generally friendly and helpful so step outside of your comfort zone and take public taxis (mini buses that are basically clown cars).

The food is amazing. Be prepared to enjoy the best traditional food you have ever tasted. Help yourself out by bringing Pepto-Bismol and Tums until you get used to eating rich and naturally prepared dishes.

It is sweaty. You are going to be sweaty no matter what clothes you bring. Itj just a fact of life. You see Ethiopians walking around with sweaters and layers and you think, “wow they are so used to this heat that they are cold”, from what I can tell this is not the case. They are just as sweaty as us.

There is wifi and everyone has phones. Cell phones are veeerrrryyyy common. I brought my laptop and cell (minus the SIM card, just buy one here) and I am so glad I did. Google maps is your best friend.

I have been bit an obscenely large amount of times by what I think are mosquitos. Turns out our window does not close properly so that is probably why the little things can sneak in bite away and then sneak out.
