Sr. Women Rugby Ontario

I have made the Sr. Women Ontario Team. I am so excited and proud of myself for making the team. Coming back from a concussion two months ago, I never thought the next part of my journey in rugby would be making the highest level provincial team. Nonetheless, I did. Now the next part that comes with this is paying to play. $1200, to go to nationals June 27-July 1.

As a student going to the University of British Columbia, I do not have the kind of cash. I don’t know anyone who does, but it is what Ontario is asking for it by next Saturday and 24 girls will have to pay it to play. This being said, 7 of the girls on the team are carded as National players and  it is in their contract that they have to play for Ontario. They don’t need to pay. Also, a numerous amount of girls were given the quest for gold scholarship to play. I think they recieve $7000 for staying and training in Ontario. http://www.questforgold.ca/athletes/Default.aspx

Side note: I have proved myself good enough to make the team and play with National team players . .

Unfortunately, I do not have either, as I am not a National team player, yet, and I train in BC so I am not qualified for Quest for Gold.

When deciding whether to do this or not, my deliberations are not of the athletic proficiency kind (e.g. “can I physically do this?”). The fact of the matter is, 99% of my hesitancy in pursing this dream revolves around financial security.

How do I pay for this Team?

You always hear people say money should never be an issue when pursuing a dream. The fact of the matter is, it is. It is an issue and its a big issue.

It is irresponsible to think otherwise.

I have played Rugby since I was 13, that is 9 years. In those  and I have played high level of rugby from 4 years in the u17, u19 program, I traveled to San Diego with u20 Canada and I have played 3 years of Varsity level rugby at UBC. I have always made it work, and although finance is a huge aspect in pursuing an athletic career as an amateur athlete, it has never stopped me before and it will not stop me now.
