NikeID Custom Shoebox

Nike is one of the world’s biggest sporting goods brands and it’s slogan “Just do it” is leaves a lasting impression.  Recently, Nike has grown from being a strictly athletic brand and is reaching out to other target markets.

Aside from athletes Nike has broadened it’s brand to include creative and individualistic type people as well with their innovative custom design shoes, now with a custom shoebox to further elevate their status.  This can be seen in:

This new innovation caters to those who relish in being different from the rest of the world.  The people most likely to exhibit this type of behaviour are typically younger and in the ‘Nexter’ generation, who are identified by their materialistic attributes.

By having this new custom shoebox Nike is saying to it’s consumers that running shoes are not just for sports, but also for style.  This design hones in on a collector’s desire to show off and present their collections in an eye-catching display.

I feel that Nike is doing this to follow in Adidas footsteps, with their custom footwear collection that has caught on with professional designers and the average person alike.  One can even purchase their own shoe design kit with paints or markers along with a plain white pair of classic Adidas shoes.  By providing this new shoebox, Nike is catering to that market and may be able to capitalize given time.
