About Me

Hi there,

My name is Jenny, and I am currently in my second year of the Global Resource System program in the department of Land and Food Systems at UBC. I am specializing in sustainable agriculture and food security issues.
Why? Good question.. hmm. Well, it’s partly because I have always been a foodie. Since I was a little girl, eating has always been one of my favourite things to do. Most of my childhood stories involve food..my childhood love of roasted garlic and passion for hot sauce come up regularly. So there is that. I have also always been in love with nature, the outdoors. I grew up camping, canoeing, hiking and mountain biking with my family, and both of my parents made the importance of our environment very clear to me from a young age. Anyway, my love of all things outside and of food brought me to farming, in a rather round-about way that took 23 years. Now, I want to farm. I want to improve our food system. I’m worried about how we treat our planet, how we grow food, how we consume that food, and how we throw out what we don’t consume. I want to spend my life working on these issues, and I am still not really sure how to go about doing that. I stumbled across the GRS program page a few years back, and decided that it was where I wanted to start. So, here I am! Still pretty unsure which way is up, but working on it. This blog is a requirement of being in the GRS program, which is why I am writing it..I have ever really felt the need to blog. But, hopefully it’ll offer some insight into some of the issues that are near and dear to my heart.
