English 301 Section 99A
University of British Columbia
Vancouver, BC
Dear English 301 Students,
Strong communication skills, teamwork skills, and technical industry experience are some of the strengths I can bring to the team. I am very excited to share my skills and experiences with you, and continue to help each other improve as we work together. Please consider my application for being a member on your professional writing team for the duration of the semester.
During my time with Ericsson, as a software developer with a focus on understanding a target audience and their technical abilities, I produced technical documents explaining functionalities of software applications as well as fully documented technical specifications and helpful software development guidelines. Working with a development team, I have experience with peer review and incorporating feedback from team members, including reviewing and submitting documents to international developers. My research skills and teamwork experience have taught me to accept criticism with an open mind; these experiences will make me a valuable member of your team.
In additional to writing for a technical audience, I also write for personal enjoyment. I have kept my personal blog at http://blog.jennylian.com/ for some time now, and I love to write about my personal life including topics such as fashion and healthy cooking. I find my writing style to be straightforward, enjoyable and fun.
I believe strong writing skills are not something you can master in one course, but something for you to work on throughout your life. If you share the same mindset as me, please accept into your writing group, as I would like to work with like-minded people.
Sincerely,
Jenny Lian
