{"id":59,"date":"2011-03-08T07:31:59","date_gmt":"2011-03-08T15:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jerrychung\/?p=59"},"modified":"2011-03-08T07:31:59","modified_gmt":"2011-03-08T15:31:59","slug":"non-celebs-on-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jerrychung\/2011\/03\/08\/non-celebs-on-ads\/","title":{"rendered":"Non-Celebs on Ads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wanting to comment on Amanda&#8217;s blog post<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amandaliu\/2011\/01\/19\/celebrity-endorsements-blog-1\/\" target=\"_blank\"> <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">here<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 In the same situation as Amanda, I always have to commute to school and I see the Beard Papa&#8217;s ads on the sides of the skytrain.\u00a0 I agree with Amanda that there are\u00a0 advantages in using non-celebrities on advertisements.\u00a0 And possibly celebrities can cause a dissociative image for the company if the unsuited celebrity was chosen to be presented in the advertisements.\u00a0 BUT!\u00a0 it is different when a company use a non-celebrity in their advertisements.\u00a0 Since they have no news and unknown to the audience, they won&#8217;t have a risk of being a dissociative member.\u00a0 In contrast, they may not be as well as an aspirational member as celebrities.<\/p>\n<p>I want to turn to a different perspective to an example from HK.\u00a0 High school Tutors on advertisements.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marco-lui.com\/journal\/2010\/7\/10\/sweet-and-sexy-hk-high-school-tutors-turn-sour.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-60\" title=\"cramschool_ad_2\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jerrychung\/files\/2011\/03\/cramschool_ad_2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jerrychung\/files\/2011\/03\/cramschool_ad_2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/jerrychung\/files\/2011\/03\/cramschool_ad_2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The advertisements are displayed and showed all around in Hong Kong like on giant billboards, sides of busses, posters around the city and many more sources.\u00a0 The tutors display themselves as if they were celebrities.\u00a0 I think it is a really creative idea because it attracts the target audience really well.\u00a0 High School Tutors would want high school students as their consumers and would want to appeal to them.\u00a0 High school students wouldn&#8217;t want the classic teacher image from their tutors.\u00a0 As a reult, the tutors &#8220;branded&#8221;
