Assignment #2 Reflections

The biggest challenge I faced this assignment was getting to know a new learning management system, Moodle. I found that it is was not as user friendly – at least for a first time user – as many other sites I’ve used, such as Weebly. Making little changes like adding links or trying to move pages was quite trying for me. I’m sure with more practice it will become a lot easier, but at this point using Moodle has turned me off from making a class Moodle like I had originally planned to do following this course. Perhaps working on assignment 3 will provide enough practice to make me comfortable enough to be motivated to experiment as I originally planned.

I think the topic we have chosen is really relevant for students. I have found through my own lessons and discussions that many students are using a lot of online tools and/or social media sites, however they generally don’t think about what or how to post, what sort of user name is appropriate, or risks of friending strangers. Formal lessons on safety, netiquette, school rules, and copyright should really help students prepare for online social and school lives.

I worked with a group for this assignment. I feel that we worked well together, we each were bringing our experiences, each contributed, but I feel like there are still issues to solve before our course is fully publishable. I believe that this will be improved upon as we move into the content module. I’m confidant that as more time is spend on our Moodle it will soon be polished into a gem of a course.
