I wrote a brief descriptive piece as if present within that space.\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p><em>Expressing my thoughts on paper was not a normal experience for me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I normally type my writing on my laptop because I find it to be a smoother process for me. I generally like to type my thoughts as I \u2018hear\u2019 them and worry about the mechanics or meaning a few seconds later. Upon quick read, I can edit where needed and exchange precise and colourful language where I can. I found writing my ideas about the image I reflected on to be a bit difficult. I would have preferred to type it as that is what I am used to. The writing on paper felt awkward for me as usually I see it used more as a note-taking tool rather than an imaginative piece I created here.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editing was a different story, too.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When I write by hand, I find it to be a slower process in how I get my thoughts out. I find myself writing slow and pausing within my writing to find the word I am looking for before expressing myself. However, when I did make an error, I ended up crossing it out and continuing. I think if I were typing out my thoughts, I would be getting my thoughts out quicker or as they were coming to me and I wouldn\u2019t be too concerned about getting them right the first time. This is because I know that if I were writing by typing on my laptop, I could easily edit my writing during and after. Yes, my laptop would point out any mechanical errors, but it, more importantly, would let me reflect on my writing and edit my word choice to enhance meaning.<\/p>\n<p><em>I think I&#8217;ve become accustomed to typing my writing.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I feel as though editing ease and pace is a significant difference between writing by hand and typing. Due to this, I do prefer using mechanized forms of writing, like typing on my laptop. Typing allows me to get my ideas down faster as my thoughts often roam quickly and it allows me to polish my ideas so that the text is a meaningful representation of my thoughts.\u00a0 Handwriting makes me nervous in that regard. Because it feels more definite, I feel I need to be careful of every word I am writing before I write it. It&#8217;s a similar process for me when I write in birthday cards; I end up using my Notes app to write a message before actually hand writing it on the card (anyone else?) because I don&#8217;t want to make any mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>I think updates with technologies show a shift in our experiences with the information. As mentioned in the episode &#8220;The Printed Book: Opening the Floodgates of Knowledge&#8221; from the podcast, <em>How it Began: A History of the Modern Worl<\/em>d, just as print books and the act of &#8220;continually improving and correcting our works&#8221; is seen as an &#8220;advantage of that art,&#8221; I think that typing work and having it available digitally too is beneficial when it comes to sharing knowledge and being able to update knowledge, too. Although handwriting is still possible and has not become extinct, I think the adaptations that have occurred with this technology has allowed for a more convenient substitution. Yes, I can write by hand, but I have tools around me (phone, laptop) that serve to be suitable to how I work now, offering ease with features of editing, word choice, and speed.<\/p>\n<p>References<\/p>\n<div class=\"example\">\n<p>Harris, B.
