In the example, where the indigenous people observed the shaking and marine flooding, there was that historical record in terms of oral speaking, charms, or even dances or religious talks about it. Despite scientific knowledge that CSZ wasn’t a threat, there are many historical records preserved by indigenous people about an event that occurred. It wasn’t until 1990 that science proved that CSZ can produce earthquakes, but before that, people had historical records that earthquakes occurred. This example shows how the arrogance of the scientific community and the lack of value it has historically attributed to traditional knowledge. Science should take into account what traditional knowledge says about the land and how that might affect the science behind it.

  3. Pachena Bay is on the coast of Vancouver Island compared to Port Alberni, which is at the end of the fjord. I inferred from the story that there were extremely big waves that washed everything away from Pachena Bay. If that is the case, then I would think the effect of this megathrust earthquake would have hit Port Alberni way harder than Pachena Bay. Port Alberni would have received larger waves and way more flooding. There would have been massive damage in Port Alberni if the waves were to wash away everything from Pachena Bay.

  11. You can’t have half or any decimal amount of a person. You have to round up to the next whole number in order to count that extra decimal.
