Kindle Fire Enters the Tablet Wars

Posted by in Article Review

Amazon Inc. will soon join the “tablet wars” when it begins selling its new tablet, the Kindle Fire, this November.

This shall prove to be a considerable challenge, as Amazon attempts to compete with the hugely successful Apple iPad. Unfortunately, the Kindle Fire will be sold exclusively in the U.S. with no plans to sell in Canada or any other country in the near future. Furthermore, Amazon’s streaming services are limited in Canada due to high licensing fees, which would restrict the Kindle Fire’s capabilities if it were ever brought to Canada.

For now, Canadians will be left with the Apple iPad. From a positioning standpoint, Apple has proven that it really does matter who gets there first. Since the iPad first went on sale, it has been able to overcome the issues that arise with international distribution, giving it a head start against the Kindle Fire. The iPad is accessible to consumers all over the world, and is able to sell at a high price.

The iPad’s ability to maintain a strong position in the market has allowed it to outdo its competition time and again. Amazon’s Kindle Fire will establish its own point of difference, however, with its surprisingly low price of only $199.
