Renewable Energy Threatened by Economic Crisis and Competition

Posted by in Uncategorized

In Business 101, we have discussed how important it is for businesses to cut back on energy use, become more fuel efficient, and increase the use of renewable energy. While some companies are starting to take these steps in the hopes of gaining value for their business and a competitive advantage, it is interesting to note that, in fact, the renewable energy industry itself is facing problems.

Currently, the world’s top executives in the renewable energy industry are feeling the heat after being hit hard by the recession. The euro crisis and a rise in the amount of natural gas available (a competitor) have only made things worse. This competition could seriously threaten the high-priced renewable energy industry, even though renewable energy has its advantages. These advantages include benefits “to the wider economy,” better safety for the environment compared to shale gas, and better “gross domestic products” based on taxes and employment for those nations who invest in wind energy compared to those who invest in natural gas.

Hopefully, with the recession behind us, the renewable energy industry will once again thrive and be available for businesses to use as a means of achieving their Eco-friendly goals.
