Definitions Assignment<\/a><\/span><\/td>\nThe purpose of this assignment was to provide a parenthetical, sentence, and expanded definition for a relatively complex term used within my discipline, which is health sciences. I chose to define “Parkinson’s Disease”, for it is a disorder that intrigues me.<\/p>\n

This assignment has helped me understand the importance of the different types of definitions in technical writing, and how levels of details in definitions should be varied depending\u00a0on the audience and purpose.<\/p>\n

Formal Report Proposal<\/a><\/span><\/td>\n\u00a0The main purpose of this assignment was for us to determine an inefficiency or problem in a public setting to base our formal reports on. In my case, I proposed research to determine the\u00a0feasibility of increasing volunteer recruitment into the rehabilitation recreation program at the Minoru Residence senior care centre.<\/p>\n

Through the proposal, I was able to brainstorm prospective items I could investigate, analyze, and recommend action for\u00a0in my report.<\/p>\n

Business Letters<\/a><\/span><\/td>\nThis exercise required us to write two business letters:<\/p>\n
    \n
  1. A letter of complaint about\u00a0a bad experience with a company<\/li>\n
  2. A response to the letter of complaint in\u00a0the perspective\u00a0of the addressed employee<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Through this exercise, I was able to practice writing professionally with the “You-attitude.” I also practiced tweaking my tone of voice to fit a specific role and situation.<\/p>\n
