Bio

Hey there,

My name is Jobina and I am a 5th year student in a combined major in computer science and biology. Since before coming to UBC, I have always been interested in biology but was not sure what a career in biology would look like. In my first year, I was enrolled in the Faculty of Arts to pursue psychology. However, I took biology classes as electives since this is what I was really interested in. After being unsatisfied with my first year, I decided to switch to the Faculty of Science to pursue biology. Somewhere in between switching to the faculty of science and choosing my major, I took my first computer science class. With absolutely no experience with computers, I took on the challenge to learn more about them and I ended up loving the course. After this, I chose to study both biology and computer science because I felt passionate about both subjects. Throughout my degree I have learned so much about software and biology but I think that I am more interested in working with software.

My end goal is to work at a company where I can apply my computer skills to a biological issue such as building an app to monitor the conditions of a greenhouse. I hope to use both of my areas of knowledge in my future career. In the short term, I am focusing on developing the software skills that I need to work at a major technology company. I am hoping that this will serve as a stepping stone to being able to apply my knowledge to biological situation.
